Tsitsipas survives matchpoint on his way to quarter-finals/Exit Mannarino

14/06/18, 18:58

Stefanos Tsitsipas had a narrow escape in his second round match at the Libéma Open. Opponent Malek Jaziri had a match point in the tiebreak of the second set, but the 19-year-old Greek survived to win, 4-6 7-6(6) 6-2.

The match was suspended due to rain and the fifth seed Tsitsipas was struggling with an injury. However, the teenager focussed on winning the two hour match against the 34-year-old Tunisian.

Tsitsipas will meet a very strong opponent in the quarter-finals, second seed Richard Gasquet. The Frenchman, who also has a beautiful one handed backhand, defeated Russia’s Evgeny Donskoy on Thursday.

Adrian Mannarino did not enjoy his top seed status very long. The Frenchman was defeated by his compatriot Jeremy Chardy in his first match on the Brabant grass, 6-4 6-4.

The latter will play against wildcard player Mackenzie McDonald in the quarter-finals. The 23-year-old American was too strong for the Australian qualifier Alex Bolt, 6-4 7-5.
