Zhang Stops Griekspoor in Second Round

Tallon Griekspoor was unsuccessful in making another deep run at the Brabant grass court tournament. The 2023 champion was stopped in the round of 16 by Zhizhen Zhang: 7-6, 6-4.

The number one from the Netherlands struggled with returning on the fast grass and couldn’t capitalize on his chances in the first set. In the tiebreak, the first Chinese player ever in the top 100 was narrowly better. Zhang, prior to his injury problems ranked world number 31, will play in the quarterfinals against the winner of the French matchup between fourth seed Arthur Rinderknech and former champion Adrian Mannarino.

Benjamin Bonzi, who celebrated his thirtieth birthday last Tuesday, had already won the other French affair on Wednesday. The qualifier beat fifth seed Ugo Humbert 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The latter reached the semifinals in each of the past two years. Bonzi now faces second-seeded Alex de Minaur.

Kamil Majchrzak also reached the quarterfinals. The Pole needed less than an hour to dismiss Australian qualifier James McCabe: 6-0, 6-3. His next opponent comes from the match between top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and Marton Fucsovics.
