Mannarino Wins Duel of Champions
Tuesday, 15:30
The first round produced several excellent matches, including a special encounter between defending champion Gabriel Diallo and 2019 champion Adrian Mannarino. As expected, it was a thrilling contest. It was the clever Mannarino who ultimately emerged victorious in three sets: 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
The Frenchman, known for his tricky left-handed game and flat shots, required two and a half hours to defeat the Canadian in the opening match on Center Court on Tuesday. His next opponent will be his fellow countryman, Arthur Rinderknech. The fourth seed had a bye in the first round and currently trails Mannarino 2-1 in their head-to-head encounters.
In Martin Damm, another left-hander has reached the second round. The American qualifier is a genuine power hitter and skillfully dispatched the Spaniard Jaume Munar: 6-4, 6-4. His next opponent is none other than the number two seed, Alex de Minaur. The world number six won the tournament in 2024.
