Elise Mertens is the first player confirmed on the entry list for the 2026 Libéma Open. Last year’s champion will return to Autotron ’s-Hertogenbosch from 6–14 June to defend her title.
‘I come to the Libéma Open every year with great pleasure. This year I will do so with a lot of confidence. I’m very happy that I’ll be able to compete again in 2026’, said Mertens, who has already appeared at the tournament six times before.
The Belgian reached the round of 16 in the singles event at the Australian Open last week. In doubles, she claimed the title. It marked her sixth Grand Slam victory and lifted her to the number one position in the world rankings.
The Belgian has won ten singles titles so far in her career, the tenth of which came on the grass courts of the Libéma Open. ‘This tournament victory ranks among my most beautiful wins. Especially because it was so close to home. My father saw me win a tournament for the first time here. My sister’s children were there as well. Those are moments I still think about every week. For me, it was a magical week at the time.’
With her victory, Mertens followed in the footsteps of her illustrious compatriots Justine Henin (champion in 2001 and 2010) and Kim Clijsters (champion in 2003). ‘I’m very happy to be part of this history.’
The Libéma Open is a combined WTA/ATP tournament and will take place from Saturday 6 June through Sunday 14 June on the grass courts at Autotron ’s-Hertogenbosch.
Last year’s men’s singles title was won by Gabriel Diallo. The talented Canadian defeated Mertens’ compatriot Zizou Bergs in the final.
More players will be announced in the coming period.
