(2023) Japanese duo wins women’s doubles
17/06/23, 18:39Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara have taken the title in the women’s doubles at Libéma Open 2023. The Japanese pair were clearly too big for Slovakian duo Viktoria Hruncakova and Tereza Mihalikova in the final match 6-3 6-3.
The champion team was seeded third and had been on a roll throughout the tournament. Only in the quarterfinals were Shibahara and Aoyaoma forced to play a match tiebreak. Incidentally, Aoyama can call herself a two-time winner on the Brabant grass, as the 35-year-old player already won the title once in 2019 alongside Aleksandra Krunic.
Shibahara, for her part, has an existing link to the Netherlands. She won the 2022 mixed doubles at Roland Garros last year on the side of Wesley Koolhof. Koolhof successfully defended his title in ‘s-Hertogenbosch with partner Neal Skupksi.
