(2023) Qualifying tournament Libéma Open with Goffin, Vandeweghe and Brouwer

25/05/23, 08:24

Spectacle guaranteed in the first weekend of Libéma Open. The qualification schedule of both the WTA and ATP tournament is full of big names.

Belgian favourite David Goffin will be in action on the weekend of 10 and 11 June. The 2015 finalist is surrounded by no fewer than nine top 100 players in the qualifying tournament, with Australia dominating. Max Purcell (ATP-67), Jason Kubler (ATP-68), Jordan Thompson (ATP-71) and Alexei Popyrin (ATP-82) know very well what it is like to play on grass.

Gijs Brouwer was admitted last to the qualifiers based on his ranking (ATP-138). Alec Deckers received a wildcard from the organisation, making him the third member of the Krajicek family to play on grass in Brabant. His father Richard Krajicek won the title in 1994 and 1997. Michaëlla Krajicek was the best in 2006.

The women’s qualifying tournament will be graced by two-time winner Coco Vandeweghe. The 31-year-old American former world number nine has fallen back in the world rankings due to injury. The same goes for Ana Konjuh. The 25-year-old Croatian was once in the top 20.

Belgium will be represented in the women’s event by Greet Minnen and Yanina Wickmayer. There is a wildcard for Lesley Pattinama-Kerkhove, who cleverly made it to the second round at Wimbledon last year.

The promo village is already fully open on Saturday and Sunday so a visit to the Libéma Open qualifying tournament is definitely worthwhile.
