LO 2022: Doubles title for Koolhof and Skupski

12/06/22, 19:40

After Tim van Rijthoven’s victory, also Dutch success in the men’s doubles. Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski came back from a set deficit to clinch the title: 4-6 7-5 10-6.

The Dutchman and the Briton, who have only been together since this year, reached their seventh final and have already won five titles together. For Koolhof it was the second time he reached the final on the Brabant grass. He also made it to the final at the previous edition, then alongside Marcus Daniell.

‘In 2019, it was not the best again and it eventually went wrong in the final. Now we were playing on centre court with the stands packed. Tim played the singles final before us and many people stuck around for our match afterwards. Especially when we made the break in the second set, the audience really got into it and that was great. It is nice to win in front of our own audience and also to win a title on grass for the first time.’

The success season of the Dutch/British duo is also reflected in the annual rankings. No team gained more points this season than they did. In Rosmalen, the pair was seeded second behind Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Losing finalists Ebden and Purcell were fourth on the ranking list in Rosmalen this year.
