LO 2022: Medvedev beats strong Simon

Daniil Medvedev beat the difficult Gilles Simon 7-5 6-4. The top seed needed almost two hours to get rid of the experienced French qualifier.

Simon, who retires from professional tennis this year, is known for his long strokes and tenacity. He took a 5-2 lead, but could not win the first set. Medvedev came up to speed and took five games in a row to take the opening set. One break in the second was enough for the global number two.

In the quarter-finals Medvedev will take on Ilya Ivashka, who had little trouble with Emil Ruusuvuori. He defeated Botic van de Zandschulp’s conquerer convincingly 6-4 6-2.
