LO 2022: Bencic fights her way to the quarter-finals; Flipkens goes on smoothly

Belinda Bencic has reached the quarter-finals. In the second round she fought her way past Anna Kalinskaya 7-6(2) 6-4.

Bencic’s start as second seed was a bit slow. She let Kalinskaya run to 4-1, before she started to catch up. The 25-year-old Swiss came alongside and dominated in the tiebreak. The second game was evenly matched for a long time, but at 5-4 Bencic cashed in her second matchpoint.

The 2015 finalist will face sixth seeded Veronika Kudermetova in the quarter-finals.

Kirsten Flipkens settled smoothly in her second round match against Ann Li. The Belgian played the final in 2013 and 2018 and feels like a fish in the water. She allowed the American only two games: 6-1 6-1.

The opponent for 36-year-old Flipkens comes from the match between Shelby Rogers and third seed Elena Rybakina.
