LO 2022: Lamens loses on debut

Suzan Lamens was unable to add lustre to her encouraging first appearance at the Libéma Open with a victory.

The player from Berkel en Rodenrijs started impressively against proven WTA player Anna Kalinskaya, but after a hard-fought opening set the former junior finalist of Roland Garros pulled the match closer: 7-6(5) 6-3.

The 22-year-old Lamens was one break ahead in the opening set, but could not enjoy the lead for long. Kalinskaya immediately repaired the deficit. In the tiebreak the number 86 of the world was just a bit better: 7-5.

In the second game, Kalinskaya quickly ran out to 5-2, despite a rain interruption. Lamens did not give up, but had to capitulate with 6-3.

Kalinskaya’s opponent in the second round is Madison Brengle and second seed Belinda Bencic.
