Muller survives service battle to reach Rosmalen final

11/06/16, 17:17

Gilles Muller (ATP-44) served himself to the final of the Ricoh Open. The seventh seed just had a bit more luck than the third seed Ivo Karlovic (ATP-28) in this match which finished  7-6(5) 7-6(4) and featured 43 aces (22 for the winner.

Neither set saw a single break opportunity for either player nor was 40-40 reached once. Karlovic had a double fault at 1-1 in the tiebreak of the opening set and a mini break was decisive.

In the second set tiebreaker Karlovic lost another mini break. At 2-1 down the Croatian hit a volley into the net. The 37-year-old player could not recover from the damage caused.

Muller now has the opportunity  to win the first ATP tournament of his career. The player from Luxembourg has competed in three finals previously, all on outdoor hard courts in the US, but has never won.
