World class player Dimitrov competing in Rosmalen
30/04/19, 12:57Grigor Dimitrov has confirmed his participation in the grass court tournament in Rosmalen which will be held from 10 till 16 June. The Bulgarian is joining, among others, Stefanos Tsitsipas, David Goffin, Frances Tiafoe, Fernando Verdasco and Robin Haase who already confirmed their participation in Libéma Open.
Dimitrov played at the Autotron ‘s-Hertogenbosch once before. He played, as a 17 year old super talent, in the first round against Igor Andreev in 2008. His feeling for the ball and athletic power were impressive and it was no surprise that the player from Haskovo developed into a regular top ten player. Dimitrov reached his highest position on the world ranking, third place, two years ago.
The winner of eight titles (on four different surfaces) became the officious world champion after winning the Nitto ATP Final in London in 2017. His opponent in the final was Goffin, who is also competing at the Libéma Open this year.
The 27 year old Dimitrov likes to play on grass. He reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2014 and the same year he won the ATP 500 tournament of Queens (grass). Dimitrov is therefore one of the favourites for this year’s Libéma Open title.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is heading the list. The world’s number 10 will have strong opposition from experienced players such as Dimitrov, Goffin and Verdasco, but also from future world class players such as Tiafoe en Alex de Minaur.
Lleyton Hewitt will play for the last time in the Netherlands during the Libéma Open. The two-fold Grand Slam champion will participate in the doubles tournament.
Currently 19 names are confirmed. This number will be increased by three wild cards, four qualifiers and two special exempts at a later stage.
Richard Gasquet won in 2018 the singles’ title and will try to defend his Libéma Open title this year.
