The tennis world has a new name to watch. The 18-year-old Stefan Kozlov (ATP-196) won his first ATP match in the opening round at Rosmalen and repeated that milestone in the second round with a superb victory over fourth seed Steve Johnson (ATP-39): 6-3, 6-4.
After deciding the first set with a double break against his American compatriot, the teenage talent soon came to 5-2 in the second set. For a while it looked as if Johnson was coming back with a break but lost his service again on love.
Kozlov won two Futures this year. He also played twice against Tim van Rijthoven in the past few months. They equally divided the victories.
Kozlov will meet another compatriot in the quarter-final. Fifth seed Sam Querry (ATP-37) will stand on the other side of the net.
