Strong win for debutant Hogenkamp in Rosmalen

Following the example set by Igor Sijsling, Richel Hogenkamp has delivered a great performance at the Ricoh Open. The player from Doetinchem did not give anything away during her debut in the main tournamentin Rosmalen against Eri Hozumi (WTA-216): 6-2, 6-2.

The global numer 134 was much too strong for the Japanese and completed the job in 53 minutes.

Hogenkamp is the only Dutch trump in the women’s singles tournament. Kiki Bertens had to withdraw due to a calf injury and Indy de Vroome was eliminated on opening day.

Hogenkamp will play the American Madison Brengle (WTA-68) in the second round. They met for the first time in Brisbane last year. Then Brengle was the winner in two sets in the qualifying round.
