Sijsling crushes Spaniard in Rosmalen

Igor Sijsling easily propelled himself into the second round of the Ricoh Open. The player from Amsterdam had no problems with tournament debutant Inigo Cervantes (ATP-74) in the opening match winning 6-4, 6-0.

Sijsling opened his grass court season in Manchester last week, but for the Spaniard it was his season’s first appearance on this surface. Cervantes slipped several times and his footwork did not seem completely up to standard.

Sijsling raced through his service games and had unsuccessful chances for a double break in the opening set. Every time that the wildcard player accelerated, a point immediately resulted.

In the second set it was pure one-way traffic and the home player ended the match with a typical service/forehand combination.

Sijsling, who booked his best result, a place in the quarter-final, at the Autotron in 2012, will meet third seed Ivo Karlovic (ATP-28) from Croatia.
