Medvedev Triumphs in Showdown Between US Open Champions

It took a while, but Daniil Medvedev has reached the semifinals. Spread over two days, the former world number one defeated fellow US Open champion Marin Cilic: 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Later that day, he will face Polish player Kamil Majchrzak in the last four.

The match against Cilic was suspended on Friday with the score tied at 1-1 in sets. Earlier on Friday, Medvedev had already taken action against 17-year-old Thijs Boogaard, in a match where he survived a match point on the centre court. That match was also spread over two days due to the rain.

Medvedev is one of two remaining top-10 players in the draw, as Alex de Minaur has also reached the semifinals. The Australian, the 2024 tournament winner, plays Adrian Mannarino on Saturday afternoon. The Frenchman, for his part, won the event in 2019.
