Bouchard quickly eliminated in Rosmalen

The marriage between Rosmalen and Eugenie Bouchard (WTA-46) remains unhappy. Qualifier Elise Mertens (WTA-171) played the 2014 Wimbledon finalist off the grass in the opening round, winning 6-2, 6-0. Bouchard has yet to win at the Autotron after three performances.
The Canadian obviously did not feel fresh, was regularly coughing and made fault after fault. The Belgian kept her concentration and the public stood behind her. She won in convincingly style, finishing the match within an hour.
Mertens will meet Croatian Mirjana Lucic Baroni (WTA-57) in the second round or lucky loser Aleksandra Krunic (WTA-119), who will replace the injured Kiki Bertens.
Siegemund exit
Fifth seed Laura Siegemund (WTA-42) also had an early exit from the Ricoh Open. The German, last year’s winner in the doubles, was defeated by Madison Brengle (WTA-68) in three sets: 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
The American awaits a match against Richel Hogenkamp if the wildcard player can beat Japan’s qualifier Eri Hozumi (WTA-216).
