Women’s doubles title goes to Khromacheva and Stollar

The women’s doubles title was won by Irina Khromacheva and Fanny Stollar. The duo were too strong for Liudmila Samsonova and Nicole Melichar-Martinez in the final, 7-5 6-3.

Khromacheva and Stollar were the second-seeded duo, but were not entirely sure they could start the tournament last week. ‘Before the tournament started, we both had some problems with our fitness. So it was uncertain whether we could participate. But we fought to make it. We also fought for every ball. That’s why I am very happy with this title,’ Khromacheva spoke with the bowl in her hands.

‘Winning the title is always a team effort. Especially I want to thank my mother. She is always there for me,’ Khromacheva continued.

Stollar stressed that she was happy to have Khromacheva as a partner this week. ‘Thank you for fighting beside me. I know it wasn’t easy.’
