Suzan Lamens has reached the quarterfinals of the Libéma Open. The number one of the Netherlands was too strong for Ann Li after two hard-fought sets on centre court: 7-6(4) 7-6(5).
On a hot day on the Brabant grass, the 25-year-old Lamens (WTA-72) took revenge on the American number 53 in the world, who proved too strong on the Tasmanian hardcourt of Hobart at the beginning of the year.
The next hurdle for Lamens is Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto (WTA-123). For the 24-year-old player from Ancona, it is the second Dutch player she meets in Rosmalen. In the first round, she beat wildcard player Arianne Hartono.
On court 3, a clash of qualifiers was won by Elena-Gabriela Ruse. The Romanian beat Canadian Carson Branstine 6-4 6-3 and may play another Canadian. She is waiting for the winner of the duel between Bianca Andreescu and seventh-seeded Lulu Sun from New Zealand.
