Andreescu starts strong as series heads drop

Bianca Andreescu continues where she left off last year on the Brabant grass. The 24-year-old Canadian reached the final in 2024 (on her birthday) and impressed in her opening match on Tuesday. On court 1, qualifier Joanna Garland was knocked out 6-1 6-3.

In the next round, Andreescu, former world number four, faces seventh-seeded New Zealand’s Lulu Sun, who in turn already managed to win over Dutch wildcard player Anouk Vrancken Peeters 6-1 6-3.

There were also a few surprises in the women’s tournament. Fourth-seeded Magda Linette came up just short against American Bernarda Pera: 6-2 6-7(10) 7-5.
