Lamens braves the rain and Wickmayer

Suzan Lamens has reached the second round of Libéma Open on a drizzling Tuesday. In a match interrupted twice by rain, the Dutch number one finalist of 2009 trumped Yanina Wickmayer: 6-3 0-6 6-3.

The scoring really shot in all directions. Indeed, Wickmayer started best and led 3-0. Lamens then set a series of six games in a row.

The second set produced complete one-way traffic for the Belgian, who is putting a stop to her active tennis career after Wimbledon.

Unfortunately for Wickmayer, the game was halted by rain at that point. This happened again later in the third set, when Lamens was leading 4-3.

After the final restart, Lamens persevered convincingly and conceded only two points in the only two games that were still necessary.

Thus, Lamens is in the second round for the second year in a row. Last year, that was her finish, when Naomi Osaka proved too big.

To reach the quarterfinals for the first time now, Lamens needs to get rid of fifth seed Anastasia Potapova or Ann Li.
