Tommy Paul next top-20 player to start grass season at Libéma Open

07/05/24, 10:00

World number 16 Tommy Paul joins Daniil Medvedev (ATP-4) and Alex de Minaur (ATP-11), who, like titleholder Tallon Griekspoor, will start their grass season at Libéma Open at the Autotron ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

The 26-year-old Paul has quite a bit of talent. The American was the biggest promise of his batch at the juniors. As shown in episode three of the second season of the popular Netflix series Breakpoint.

In 2023, Paul reached the last four at the Australian Open. For him, it was confirmation that hard work is rewarded. The hunt for the US number one position was on. Currently, Paul is hot on the heels of his compatriots Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton.

Paul reached his highest ranking last year with a 12th position. The two-time tournament winner on the ATP Tour (Stockholm 2021 and Dallas 2024) faces his third appearance in Brabant in June. He was previously present at the Dutch ATP 250 tournament in 2019 and 2022.

Libéma Open is a combined ATP/WTA event. The women’s tournament welcomes at least Paul’s compatriot Jessica Pegula (WTA-5) and Belgian crowd favourite and global number two in doubles Elise Mertens.

More players will be announced in the coming period.

The order of finals on Sunday 16 June is reversed this year. The singles title match of the men’s tournament starts at noon. The singles final of the WTA tournament is scheduled at 2.30pm.
