LO 2022: Dream week continues for Van Rijthoven

What a breakthrough week for Tim van Rijthoven. After his sensational victory over Taylor Fritz, he extended his winning streak by beating Hugo Gaston. On court 1 he defeated the Frenchman in straight sets: 7-6(2) 6-4.

The contrast was huge. Gaston small, left-handed, double-handed backhand with a lot of feel balls. Van Rijthoven, large, strong service and sledgehammer blows from the baseline. The 25-year-old Dutchman, who entered with a wildcard, was unapproachable on his own service. In  the whole match he did not lose more than one point in his own service games.

After winning the tiebreak in the opening set, a servicebreak in the middle of the second set was enough to serve out the match on his own.

In his first semi-final at the highest level, Van Rijthoven will meet Felix Auger-Aliassime or Karen Khachanov.
