LO 2022: First grass victory for Griekspoor

Tallon Griekspoor has won his first match on grass. In the opening match on centre court, he defeated Aljaz Bedene 7-5 7-5.

It was only Griekspoor’s second appearance at the Libéma Open. In 2017 he lost as wildcard player to Canadian Vasek Pospisil. Last year at Wimbledon he had to bow to world champion Alexander Zverev.

Against Bedene, the 25-year old played excellent grass tennis. He put the Slovenian under pressure and managed to steal his opponent’s service game at exactly the right moment (6-5).

For a place in the quarterfinals Felix Auger-Aliassime is his opponent. The 21-year-old Canadian is the world number nine and ranked second.
