LO 2019 – Match Bertens-Rus postponed

The Dutch meeting between Kiki Bertens and Arantxa Rus had to be postponed on Thursday evening. At an advantage for Bertens, 7-5 4-3 40-15, it were again the weather conditions that spoiled it and the centre court was cleared.

Although the lead of Bertens is no surprise based on her status, the match against the left-handed Rus did not start smoothly for the first seed. A 5-1 disadvantage in the first set had to be turned. Bertens succeeded in this task and the second set went much better until the match had to be interrupted. The opponent in the next round for Bertens or Rus will be de winner of the match between qualifier Paula Badosa Gibert and former finalist Natalia Vikhlyantseva.

The match of title defender Richard Gasquet was interrupted at the moment that the Frenchman was leading with 6-4 1-2 against Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin. The second round duel will, as well as the match Bertens-Rus and Badosa Gibert-Vikhlyantseva, be played on Friday.

Gasquet or Kukushkin will meet Nicolas Jarry, who defeated topseed Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets.
