Finalist Bergs follows fellow countrywoman Mertens to the Libéma Open

Will there be Belgian finals again at the Libéma Open this summer?

After the announcement that Elise Mertens will defend her WTA title this year her compatriot Zizou Bergs has also confirmed his participation at the Autotron ’s‑Hertogenbosch.

Bergs played in last year’s ATP final of the Libéma Open in front of many Belgian fans in the stands. The 26‑year‑old player from Lommel is a true crowd‑pleaser and regularly receives applause for his game. “We’ll make it a party again,” said the likable Belgian.

Last season Bergs reached two ATP Tour finals (the Libéma Open and Auckland). He is still waiting for his first tournament victory.

Last year he had to bow out to Gabriel Diallo after a thrilling final match. A year earlier, future tournament winner Alex de Minaur beat him on the Brabant grass courts.

Bergs is steadily climbing the world rankings. Since breaking into the top 100 two years ago, his position has risen each year, and he now sits comfortably among the world’s top 50 players, with a career‑high ranking of 39.

More players will be announced in the coming weeks.
