Success debut Borges and Diallo

A flying start for Nuno Borges and Gabriel Diallo: the two tournament debutants did not lose a set in their first ever match at Libéma Open.

Portuguese number one Borges was a size too big for young American talent Nishesh Basavareddy with 7-6(2) 6-2. In the lower section of the tournament schedule, he awaits the winner of the duel between Finnish Otto Virtanen and top Argentine Tomás Martín Etcheverry.

For his part, the 23-year-old Diallo prevailed over Aleksandar Vukic in his first match in Rosmalen. The Australian was defeated 7-5 7-6(2) on court 1.

His next opponent may be another Australian, if two-time finalist Jordan Thompson manages to deal with American Aleksandar Kovacevic on Monday afternoon.

Luciano Darderi is the first seeded player to have lost out. Former top-20 player Nicolás Jarry battled back from a set deficit to send the eighth-seeded Italian home after a hard-fought two-and-a-half-hour duel: 5-7 6-4 7-6(3).

Jarry could possibly face wildcard player Jesper de Jong in his next match, provided the number two seed from the Netherlands manages to win from service ace Reilly Opelka.
