Bianca Andreescu and Maria Sakkari have received a wildcard for Libéma Open. 24-year-old Andreescu and 29-year-old Sakkari have both been in the world’s top five before.
Last year, Andreescu reached the final of Libéma Open. In an exciting match, the Canadian eventually had to bow to Liudmila Samsonova, who is coming to defend her title this year.
Andreescu reached the fourth spot in the world rankings and won three titles in her career so far. Her biggest achievement was victory at the 2019 US Open.
For Sakkari, it will be her first participation at Libéma Open. The Greek former world number three holds two top prizes. She recorded her biggest win in 2023 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Guadalajara.
Besides titleholder Samsonova, top-30 players Ekaterina Alexandrova and Elise Mertens will also be in action. Dutch number one Suzan Lamens and Danielle Collins are other eye-catchers.
