Title holder Griekspoor close to Van de Zandschulp after draw

08 June, 18:21

Alex de Minaur, Tommy Paul, Ugo Humbert and Karen Khachanov occupy the first four positions on the ranking list of Libéma Open 2024. The quartet enjoys a bye in the first round. For Tallon Griekspoor, his title defence attempt starts against Miomir Kecmanovic (ATP-57).

The Dutch number one, currently a member of the global top25, could face Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round if he wins. The wildcard player would then have to beat American Mackenzie McDonald in his opening match.

Tim van Rijthoven, who surprised friend and foe by winning the 2022 title, could also count on a wildcard and will celebrate his long-awaited return to the tour after a 15-month absence with injury. His opponent will follow from the qualifying weekend.

Besides Griekspoor, seeded players Adrian Mannarino (5), Sebastian Korda (7) and Jordan Thompson (8) may also be in action in the first round. Grassroots favourite Mannarino is a former tournament winner, while rising star Korda will make his debut. Both will meet a qualifier.

Thompson faced Griekspoor in the final match last year and opens this year against former world number three Milos Raonic. In the person of David Goffin, there is another former top-10 player in the main draw. The Belgian received a wildcard and starts his campaign against young Italian Luca Nardi, who knocked off Novak Djokovic earlier this year.
