LO 2022: Perez and Zidansek take women’s doubles title

The title in the women’s doubles has been won by Ellen Perez and Tamara Zidansek. The duo parried a match point in the final against Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova to win 6-3 5-7 12-10.

Perez and Zidansek started fresh in the final match against the best couple in the world. The Australian/Slovene tandem saw Demi Schuurs and Desirae Krawczyk in the semi-finals on Friday drop out halfway through the first set. Kudermetova on the other hand had to play the semi-final in the singles earlier on Saturday (losing to Ekaterina Alexandrova) and on Mertens’ side also the semi-final in the doubles.

In the thrilling matchbreak Perez and Zidansek were facing a match point at 10-9, after they could not exploit three championship points themselves. Perez made sure they stayed in the match with a beautiful return. Two points later they won the title with a good service.
