Goffin reaches quarter-final through friend Herbert

David Goffin has reached the quarter-final. In the second round he defeated good friend Pierre-Hugues Herbert in two sets. The Belgian won with 6-3 7-5.

Goffin’s play was, especially, in the first set impressive. His passing shots made his French opponent feel slightly desperate. In the second set the difference was less obvious. Goffin was able to snatch Herbert’s service game at 5-5 after the Frenchman lost his advantage of 30-00. The fifth seed finished the game convincingly.

To reach the semi-final Goffin will have to defeat the winner of the match between the two left-handed players Fernando Verdasco and Adrian Mannarino.
