Title defender Richard Gasquet has safely survived his first round match. The Frenchmen lost the first set to Slovenian Aljaz Bedene, but came back strong to take the win: 6-7 7-6 6-4.

Gasquet was only two points away from defeat in the tie break of the second set, but the former number 7 of the world was able to keep away the danger and to win the set.

Gasquet, who won 15 ATP titles (three on grass), was not able to finish the match on 5-2, but later he did on 5-4.

The grass court specialist will meet the winner of the match between Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin and Lorenzo Sonego from Italy in the second round.

Chile’s Nicolas Jarry will join Gasquet in the next round. He defeated the 17-year-old qualifier Jannik Sinner with 7-6 6-3 and will play against topseed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
