Kontaveit reaches third round at Roland Garros for the first time
30/05/18, 16:37Anett Kontaveit defeated Alexandra Dulgheru with a good straight sets victory in the second round of Roland Garros. The Estonian, seeded 25th, was to strong for the world’s number 159: 7-5 6-2.
The 22-year-old Kontaveit is playing for the third time at the French Grand Slam tournament and never reached the third round before. Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza prevented previous efforts of the current Libéma Open titleholder.
She will have to beat Petra Kvitova in the third round. The world’s number 8 defeated Lara Arruabarrena from Spain with 6-0 6-4.
Libéma Open participant Alison Riske was defeated by Simona Halep. The American surprisingly won the first set against the world’s number one, but she lost anyway. Halep won with 2-6 6-1 6-1 and will play against wild card player Taylor Towsend from the USA in the second round.
