Vandeweghe defeats Siegemund; comeback Bencic at Roland Garros

CoCo Vandeweghe has reached the second round at Roland Garros. The two-time Libéma Open winner was too strong for Laura Siegemund with 6-4 6-4.

Vandeweghe, seeded 15^th, is not a fan of gravel, but was able to take advantage of her power tennis against the German. But there is room for some improvement, because Vandeweghe’s service sometimes faltered: only 54% of her first services were in and she had no less than 11 double faults.

Vandeweghe will play against Lesia Tsurenko in the second round. The Ukrainian defeated Stefanie Voegele from Switzerland with 4-6 6-2 6-2.

Comeback Bencic
Belinda Becic made her comeback in competition after a three months absence. The Swiss didn’t play any competition since the beginning of March due to an injury. The former number seven of the world defeated qualifier Deborah Chiesa, who beat Arantxa Rus in the last qualification round, with 3-6 7-6(2) 7-5.

Bencic will compete against Magdalena Rybarikova in the next round. The Slovakian is seeded 19^th in the French capital and convincingly defeated Luksika Kumkhum from Thailand  with 6-3 6-0.
