Kontaveit victorious against Kuznetsova
19/05/18, 11:37Anett Kontaveit has reached the third round of the big WTA tournament of Rome. The 22-year-old Estonian was too strong for Svetlana Kuznetsova: 7-5 7-5.
The first meeting ever between the Libéma Open titleholder and the two-time Grand Slam champion was an exciting one. Kontaveit, who is trained by Holland’s Glen Schaap, won only four points more than her Russian opponent.
To reach the quarter-final Kontaveit has to defeat Venus Williams. Eighth seed Williams defeated Elena Vesnina in three sets: 6-2 4-6 7-5. The older sister of Serena and the Russian number 44 of the world had to play two hours and 15 minutes in rainy Rome.
Krunic
Aleksandra Krunic could not manage 15th seed Anastasija Sevastova. The player from Belarus was too strong for the lucky loser: 6-4 6-4.
Krunic was defeated in the last round of the qualification tournament but was able to play due to several withdrawals. The Serbian won the match against Roberta Vinci in three sets. The Italian played her last match as a professional.
