Anett Kontaveit is unstoppable in Rome. The current Libéma Open champion has reached the semi-finals at the big gravel tournament in the Italian capital. The player from Estonia dealt with Caroline Wozniacki in two sets: 6-3 6-1.
It took the world’s number 26 only 1 hour and 15 minutes to finish off the number 2 of the WTA rankings and to reach the semi-finals where she will play against the title defender Elina Svitolina. The Ukrainian, the world’s number 4, was too strong for the two-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber with 6-4 6-44.
Denmark’s Wozniacki was the third Grand Slam champion in a row who was beaten by Kontaveit. Previously Svetlana and Venus Williams went down against the 22-year-old pupil of Dutch coach Glen Schaap.
