Haase battles past Medvedev; Muller eliminated in Rome
14/05/18, 17:51 | More on: Gilles MullerRobin Haase has reached the second round of the Master 1000 tournament of Rome. Russia’s Daniil Medvedev was defeated with 3-6 6-4 6-1.
Medvedev won the two previous encounters last year when the 22-year-old Russian defeated Holland’s number one on the grass courts of Rosmalen and Eastbourne.
Medvedev was the better player in the first half of the match on the Italian gravel. But Haase came back and took a 4-0 advantage in the deciding set and everything seemed to be running smoothly. However, Haase lost his service game at 40-15. But that was the only fault he made and once again he broke the service of his opponent and won.
Haase will meet 15th seed Tomas Berdych or young sensation Denis Shapovalov from Canada in the second round.
Muller
Gilles Muller did not got through the opening round of the Masters 1000 tournament. The Libéma Open titleholder lost in two sets against Aljaz Bedene. The Slovenian was too strong with twice 6-4 and will play against seventh seed Kevin Anderson from South-Africa.
