Kontaveit meets Kvitova in Madrid

Anett Kontaveit will meet Petra Kvitova in the third round of the WTA tournament in Madrid. The 2017 Libéma Open winner beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus in the second round with 6-2 4-6 6-2. Kvitova is 10th seed and finished the match against Monica Puig in two sets: 6-3 7-6(8).

Kontaveit is in good shape as she defeated Venus Williams in the opening round on the Madrid gravel. However, Kvitova is also playing strong. The left-handed Czech won the WTA tournament in Prague last week and is unbeaten in seven matches in a row.

Kontaveit and the twofold Wimbledon champion played against each other once before. Last year Kvitova was too strong in three sets on the hardcourt of Cincinnati.
