Haase outclassed by Goffin in Madrid
09/05/18, 15:08The singles tournament in Madrid has finished for Robin Haase. David Goffin was too strong for the player from The Hague in the Masters 1000 tournament with 7-5 6-3.
In the first set Haase got back from a break disadvantage. Holland’s number one bounced back from 1-3 to 3-3 and from 3-3 to 5-5. A tiebreak was on the way, but at 6-5 in Goffin’s advantage, Haase lost his service games to Belgium’s number one player.
Halfway the second set the number ten of the world took another break which was enough for eighth seed Goffin to win the match.
Goffin will have to play Britain’s Kyle Edmund or Novak Djokovic for a place in the quarter final. The match will be played on centre court of the Caja Magica in the Spanish capital.
Haase will focus on the doubles tournament. He will play against Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares together with Jean-Julien Rojer. Soares and Andy Murray’s brother are fifth seed.
