Haase defeats Chung in Madrid

Robin Haase convincingly defeated Hyeon Chung in the first round of the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid. The player from The Hague was too strong for the Korean with 6-2 6-0.

Haase was beaten in the first round at the first three clay tournaments of this season (Marrakech, Monte-Carlo and Estoril), but his match against the number 21 of the world in the Spanish capital was convincing and nearly faultless.

Holland’s number one won no less than 10 games in a row and raced to a 6-2 6-0 victory in 53 minutes.

The 31-year-old Haase will play against David Goffin in the second round. The Belgian player is eighth seed and received a bye in the opening round. It will be the fifth meeting between Haase and Belgium’s best male player ever.
