Mertens takes fourth title in Rabat

Elise Mertens has won the WTA tournament of Rabat. The first seed was to strong for Ajla Tomljanovic with 6-2 7-6(4).
It took Mertens 1 hour and 45 minutes to secure her third tournament victory of the year on the Moroccan gravel. Previously the 22-year-old Belgian player won the tournaments in Hobart and Lugano. Australia’s Tomljanovic suffered numerous injuries the past years and played her second WTA final in Rabat.
In the past few weeks Mertens proved to be in very good shape. The world’s number 19 from Leuven has won 12 matches in a row and she produced no less than 18 winners in this final.
This week she will play in the tournament in Madrid. She will play against her compatriot Alison Van Uytvanck in the first round in the Spanish capital.
