Vandeweghe hunting for third title in Rosmalen
30/04/18, 12:29To date, world class player CoCo Vandeweghe (WTA-13) won two WTA titles in her career and both were won at the grass courts of Rosmalen. This year the American hard hitter will be one of the favourites for the title during the Libéma Open from 11 till 17 June.
The current number 13 of the world was ranked within the top 10 of the WTA Rankings at end of last year. Vandeweghe, whose mother participated in the 1976 Olympic Games as a swimmer and in 1984 as a volleyball player, ended her successful year with winning the Fed Cup. At the beginning of this year the American, who has Belgian roots, was too strong for the Netherlands in the nations tournament. Vandeweghe will play the Final in November with the American team against the Czech Republic.
It will be Vandeweghe’s fifth appearance at the Libéma Open. In 2014 and 2016 she won the title by defeating Jie Zheng and Kristina Mladenovic in the Final.
The semi-finalist of the Australian and US Open and the twofold quarter-finalist of Wimbledon likes to play on fast courts as the statistics at the sole WTA tournament in the Netherlands confirm. She won 12 out of 14 matches she has played in the main tournament on the Brabant grass court.
Previously Belgium’s number one Elise Mertens (WTA-19) and Kiki Bertens (WTA-20) announced their participation in Rosmalen.
