Belgium’s number one Mertens in Rosmalen
22/03/18, 18:46Elise Mertens will play at the Libéma Open. The current World Number 21 has competed in Rosmalen three times. In 2016 she reached the quarter final, her best result so far at the Autotron.
Mertens made her breakthrough in 2017 when she moved up the rankings from 120th to 35th position. This year the 22-year-old player from Leuven is continuing this upward trend. Belgium’s number one regained her title at the Hobart WTA tournament and reached the semi-finals at the Austrialian Open where she was defeated by the eventual winner, Caroline Wozniacki.
Mertens hopes to become the third Belgian winner of the Libéma Open singles title The Flemish would follow in the footsteps of her illustrious compatriots Justine Henin (2001 & 2010) and Kim Clijsters (2003).
