18/06/17, 14:17 | More on: ana kontaveitAnett Kontaveit claimed the Ricoh Open title in the ladies’ tournament. The world’s number 49 was clearly too strong for Natalia Vikhlyantseva (WTA-74) and beat her in straight sets, to win 6-2 6-3 .
The pupil of Dutch coach Glen Schaap dictated from the baseline on the very hot centre court, concluding the match in one hour and 15 minutes. With 12 winners and 19 unforced errors, the balance sheet of the 21-year-old Estonian was better than her one year younger Russian opponent. Vikhlyantseva produced no less than 33 unforced errors and had not nearly enough winners.
Kontaveit’s first WTA title is worth 34,000 euros and 280 important points for the world ranking.
