Haase out in first round in three sets
13/06/17, 15:55Robin Haase was not able to secure a place in the second round at the Ricoh Open. The Dutch number one was defeated with 7-6(5) 3-6 6-3 by the Russian qualifier Daniil Medvedev (ATP-65).
The second and third set were both decided with one service break. After two hours and 17 minutes Medvedev finished the duel on centre court. The 21-year-old player will now prepare for his meeting with Thanasi Kokkinakis (ATP-993).
The Australian won his first match on the highest level in Rosmalen since the summer of 2015, after he has been plagued with injuries over the past year and a half. With 6-4 7-5 the 21-year-old Kokkinakis proved too strong for Mikhail Youzhny (ATP-86).
Fifth seeded Steve Darcis did, just like sixth seed Haase, not survive the first round. Alexander Dolgopolov (ATP-81) defeated the Belgian with 6-2 7-6(3). Qualifier Vasek Pospisil (ATP-83) is the next opponent for the Ukrainian.
