The 20-year-old Zverev made his debut in the top 10 of the world ranking after winning the Masters 1000 tournament of Rome after beating Novak Djokovic in the final.
The German player, who has Russian roots, is named as the future number one and is well on his way to realize this promise. Tournament director Marcel Hunze is very pleased with the participation of ‘Sascha’, “Alexander Sverev, only 20-years-old, already belongs to the select group of ‘big boys’. The strong competitor field is lifted to an even higher level with his participation. It is good for the tournament and, of course, for the public.”
Zverev already proved to play well on grass last year in the final of the grass tournament of Halle. He defeated champion Roger Federer in the semifinals at the ATP 500 tournament. This year the German player already won three titles (Rome, Munich and Montpellier).
It is Zverev’s first performance at the Ricoh Open.
