Another world star will be added to the already strong field of participants at Libéma Open. Naomi Osaka has pledged her participation. The four-time Grand Slam champion and former world number one will make her debut in the Netherlands.
From 2018 to 2021, Osaka won a Grand Slam title every year: US Open (2018 and 2020) and Australian Open (2019 and 2021).
Last summer, the 26-year-old Japanese became a mother of a daughter. Earlier this year, Osaka made her return to the WTA Tour. She herself called it the second part of her career.
In her successful career, in addition to four Grand Slam titles, Osaka also spent 21 weeks continuously at the top of the world rankings. In total, she won seven titles.
Coached by Belgian Wim Fissette, Osaka is known for her strong personality. She devoted herself to many social issues. She is seen as a global role model who pushes boundaries and is an inspiration to many. This already makes her a legend in tennis.
World number five Jessica Pegula had also previously promised her arrival at Libéma Open. Two-time winner Ekaterina Alexandrova, Grand Slam champion Bianca Andreescu and top-30 players Liudmila Samsonova, Emma Navarro, Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens are also in attendance. Dutch input comes from Arantxa Rus.
