Kontaveit proud of winning first trophy

‘I am so happy and proud, winning this title after a fantastic week. The result of hard work,” explained the smiling Estonian after winning her first trophy at this highest level.
‘I am proud that I succeeded in coming back in the first two matches in which I had a set disadvantage. I fought through these difficult moments.’
Although the result looks as if Kontaveit easily defeated the Russian debutant, the champion said nothing could be less true. ‘The final was difficult and the result was flattering. We played close games and I had breakpoints against me from the beginning. In the second set I was down one break. It was not easy.’
