Sabalenka surprisingly defeated

The first round was also the final round for Aryna Sabalenka. Destanee Aiava was too strong for the Belarusian. The 19 year old wild card player won in three sets: 7-6(3) 1-6 6-4.

The showdown between Sabalenka and the young Australian lasted almost two hours. Aiava won the opening set with a tie break but then had to face a 1-6 1-3 disadvantage. However, she was able to turn the tide. She only lost one of the next six games and won the match with 6-4.
