First seed Kiki Bertens successfully started her campaign at the Libéma Open. The world’s number four defeated Sweden’s Johanna Larsson with 6-3 6-1. It was Bertens first performance after her unfortunate withdrawal in the second round at Roland Garros (stomach flu).
Bertens continued where she stopped the grass court season last year, when she reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. The 27 year old from Wateringen broke Larsson’s service no less than five times. Bertens played doubles successfully with Larsson in the past.
Bertens has won titles on both clay and hard court. A title on grass is still missing. To change that the world class player has to defeat another good friend. Arantxa Rus will be waiting for her in the second round, after she defeated Bibiane Schoofs in two sets.
